LGBTQ+

Where to start? There is nothing wrong with you, yet you may find yourself facing stigma, discrimination, and pressure to conform to cultural traditions, including conventional expectations around marriage and childbearing. If these experiences persist, they can lead to a profound sense of isolation, fear of ostracization, and self-hatred. This situation can also cause anxiety, depression, and lead one to live a hidden life away from the public eye.

Prevail’s Perspective:

We believe it is up to the individual to wrestle with, shape, determine, and express their own identity. It is the responsibility of the family to embrace each other's differences with grace and unconditional love. Similarly, it is society's role to ensure this process is safe for everyone and to advocate for equity.

Our approach to addressing inequality and homophobia evolves as we deepen our understanding of the needs of the LGBTQ+ community. Our commitment is to consistently provide a safe space for individuals to be themselves and to develop into the person they aspire to be, all while navigating the complex landscapes of cultural, familial, and societal expectations that are deeply entrenched in heteronormativity.

We prepare clients for a variety of outcomes and guide them in creating their own space—one that respects cultural values and traditions of their choosing. If clients wish, we prepare them to communicate with significant people in their lives while maintaining boundaries and ensuring their safety; however, this step is not mandatory, and it is perfectly acceptable to be selective about disclosure. We emphasize that it is not their responsibility to change the community or enforce accountability. Yet, when they do find their voice, they emerge as powerful agents of positive change.
