Low Self-Esteem

Low self-esteem can manifest in excessive self-criticism, a sense of inferiority and self-doubt, and people-pleasing tendencies. Fear of failure is often present, leading to the avoidance of challenges or new experiences. A reluctance to express opinions is also common, which may result in social withdrawal and difficulty in maintaining relationships. These symptoms not only affect personal well-being but can also hinder professional growth and the ability to form meaningful connections.

Prevail’s Perspective:

Low self-esteem arises from a deep sense of shame and unworthiness. Within Asian communities, it can be influenced by the pressure to bring honor to our families. We believe it is less about personal achievements and more about being treated as 'less than' by our environment or being told we are not enough when we fail to measure up.

Low self-esteem is treatable. Our approach involves providing a safe space for clients to explore the root causes, often stemming from past traumas, negative feedback, or unhealthy relationships. We assist them in coming to terms with these experiences, in addition to identifying and challenging negative beliefs about themselves.

We explore our clients' relationship with failure, working with them to develop a new narrative that separates mistakes from identity. We help them understand and set healthy boundaries, empowering them to engage more fully with life, thereby enhancing their overall well-being and happiness.
